Vientiane Province
Vientiane province is located in central of Laos and has a total area of approximately 15,927 square kilometers. The total population is about 350,000 people and Phonehong is its capital city.
The province has ten following districts:
- 1. Phonehong District
- 2. Thoulakhom District
- 3. Keo-Oudom District
- 4. Kasy District
- 5. Vangvieng District
- 6. Feuang District
- 7. Xanakham District
- 8. Mad District
- 9. Hinhurp District
- 10. Viengkham District
This province has a border with Luang Prabang in the north, Xieng Khouang in the northeast, Xaisomboun province in the east, Xaignabouly in the west and Vientiane municipality in the south. This is a well developed province with good roads infracstructure and power available to nearly every town.
The main group that found here is Lao (or Lao Lum) which is the majority group in Laos and they are maily farmers who grow rice along the bank of Mekong river.
Vang Vieng is the hottest tourist attraction of the province. It located 160 km north of Vientiane prefecture, where there are a lot of backpackers go there every day to explore the beautiful scenary of the nature and the laid back country life style.
Nam Ngeun Lake is also a beaufiful attraction in the province. This is a men made lake of hydro-electric dam, generating electrcity to Vientiane capital as well as exporting electricity to Thailand. There are cruising boat taking visitor to explore the beautiful scenery around the lake daily.
