Sekong Province

sekong province

Sekong province is located in southern part of Laos and has a total area of approximately 7,665 square kilometers.
The total population is about 65,000 people and Lanarm is its capital city.

The province has four following districts:

  • 1. Lanarm District
  • 2. Kaleum District
  • 3. Dakcheung District
  • 4. Thateng District

Sekong has a border with Vietnam in the east, Salavan province in the west, Attapeu and Champasak province in the south. This is a least developed province in Laos, and access there is still difficult, especially during rainning season.

Sekong is also home of many ethic groups and the main groups that found here are: Katang, Tahoy, Pako, Kado and Suay. These people live and work follow their unchanging lifestyle for century. Sekong River, which flows south into Cambodia, is main source of food and transportation of the province.

This province was heavily bomded by US-B52 during Vietnam war and the remains of bombs still found scattering along Ho Chi Minh trail.
