Savannakhet province is located in central part of Laos and has a total area of approximately 21,774 square kilometers.
The total population is about
850,000 people and Khanthabuly
is its capital city.
The province has fifteen
following districts:

Savannakhet
province has a border with
Vietnam in the east, Thailand in the west, Khammouane
province in the north, Salavan
province in the south.
Savannakhet's town is situated opposite Mukdahan in Thailand
and since the opening of the Second
Lao-Thai Bridge here the town
become the trade center between Vietnam
and Thailand.

Savannakhet
province is also home of many ethic groups and the main groups that
found here
are: Tai Dam, Phoutai, Kapo, Kaleung and Lava. It's a small town and
can be explored by foot or bicycle. There are few temples and some
colonial building left behind during French's rule.
Wat
Inghang Temple situated in Ban
Thad village believes to be a sacred site for Savannakhet people and
every year there is an annual festival.
Ho Tay Pilok Library
located in Ban Nonglamchan villange where it contains a collection of
many century year old palm leaves manuscripts written in the ancient
Bali-Sanscrit and lao alphabets also a very important site in this
province.
Getting
to Savannakhet is easy from
Thailand there are regular buses running all day from Mukdahan to
Savannakhet. From Vietnam there are regular buses from Lao Bao (Hoi An
crossing) to Savannakhet.
There are also buses running
from Vientiane and Pakse regularly to Savannakhet.
Savannakhet now has casino
called Savan Vegas and its opens the door to the international players
only.
