Laos 7 days/6 nights Tour Code: NLV7 Luang Prabang-Vientiane |
Following the route of the
‘classic’ Luang Prabang and Vientiane tour in Laos,
this programme is ideal for anyone with an interest in trekking and
nature, and forms an ideal varied 1 week itinerary.
Day
1: Arrival – Luang Prabang
On arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to your
hotel. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 2: Luang Prabang full

After breakfast we visit the Royal Palace Museum which hosts a range of
interesting artifacts and a guided audio tour. We then begin our temple
tour taking in some the cities most beautiful, including the
magnificent Wat Xiengthong, with its roofs sweeping low to the ground,
representing the classical Luang Prabang style, as well as Wat Mai and
Wat Visoun, known as ‘The Water Melon Stupa’ due to
its
shape.
In the afternoon we visit the excellent Arts and Ethnology Centre which gives us a further insight into the ethnic mix and culture of Laos. We then visit the weaving and textile villages of Ban Xangkhong and Ban Xienglek. Our final stop of the day is a climb Mt Phousi, which offers a spectacular sunset and a panoramic view over Luang Prabang and the Mekong River. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 3: Luang Prabang
– Gecko
Cliff Adventure (B, L)
This cycling and boat tour takes in the rarely visited villages,
temples and a waterfall all located across the Mekong River from Luang
Prabang.
This morning you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to
the boat pier. Here you board your private boat for a short cruise to
the ancient Royal temple of Wat Long Khoun, that was formerly used by
past Kings and Queens for meditation purposes. We then cycle for
approximately 30 minutes to the village of Xienmene, where you can
pause to explore the quiet village, including a visit to the local
school.
We then continue by bicycle
along quiet unpaved roads to the unknown
but beautiful Hoy Khua Waterfall. En route, we make a short stop at a
Khmu village.
After enjoying a picnic lunch overlooking the waterfall, we cycle to
the riverside village of Ban Pak Leuang and board our boat, following
the Mekong upstream to the village of Ban Chan, famous for its pottery
making. Here we will meet the locals and learn about their daily
lifestyle. Following this visit we continue by private boat to Luang
Prabang, arriving back in the town at approximately 4pm. Complimentary
tea and coffee served on board the boat.
Day 4: Luang Prabang
– Kuang
Si waterfall (B, L)
After breakfast, we visit the local Phosi Market, this is the place
where all the locals shop and your guide will show you the diverse
offerings on display. We also stop at Ock Pop Tock, a silk weaving
centre. Here you will be given a guided tour and the silk weaving
process will be explained.
Next we drive to Ban Thinkeo, a Hmong village and start trekking with the villagers. Your guide will explain to you the common use of the plants for the Hmong people. You will go to the garden and cut some vegetables and herbs with the local people. We then continue to Kuang Si Waterfall, where you will enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the beautiful multi tiered falls.
You also have the opportunity
to cool off in the turquoise blue
pools. Afterwards you return to Luang Prabang in time to catch the sun
setting over the Mekong.
Ban Thinkeo, this Hmong village located on the way to Kuang Si
waterfall exists for almost 3 years. Viengchampa promotes
‘responsible a tourism’ excursion here and supports
the
village. A part of the cost of the trip goes back to this village to
improve water supply and way of life of the villagers.
Day 5: Luang Prabang
–
Vientiane (B)
After your breakfast, free time before your transfer for your flight to
Vientiane. Upon arrival, we start visiting the oldest, Wat Sisaket with
thousands of miniature Buddha statues and the former royal temple of
Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. .
Enroute to Lao’s national precious heritage, the famous and
sacred structure of That Luang Stupa, you will have the opportunity to
take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is well
known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph.
The final visit of the day will be the excellent COPE exhibition centre, highlighting a much overlooked aspect of Laos and a major problem many of the local people face on a day to day basis in the form of unexploded ordnance as a result of heavy bombing campaigns during the Vietnam War era. Day 6: Vientiane
– Orchid
Trek (B,L)
After your breakfast, departure at 7.30 AM from your hotel to Ban
Hatkhai (1h30 mn by road from Vientiane). Start trekking at the Phu Kwa
Kway conversation area to reach Pha Say waterfall.
Your guide will explain to you the different species of orchid you will find along the way (1h30 min walk). Lunch at a nearby a river. In the afternoon, walk to Tad Xai waterfall. Free time to relax. The trekking finishes around 4.30 pm. Arrival in Vientiane at 6.00 pm. Overnight in Vientiane.
A part of the cost of the trip goes back to this village. It helps the local villagers to get a monthly income and also to improve the school, temples and roads. Any donations like schoolbooks, pen or pencils are highly appreciated.
Day 7: Vientiane
– departure
(B)
After your breakfast, free time before your transfer to the airport for
your international flight.
