Mounlapamok district is situated in Champasak province, Laos.
Laos. This is a small town and
less visited by local and oversea visitors. In the past this area can
be accessed only by boat along the Mekong
River and there was no road
linking from villages to villages.

Transportation to this part of
the country is extremely difficult especially during dry season, big
boats can only access during the wet season when the Mekong
River is in full capacity. Along
the Mekong River, there are navigation's buoy left by French to guide
the boat up and down the river.
If you're entering the town
from route 13 you have to take a ferry across the Mekong River as
picture below.

Alternatively, if you do not
want to use the ferry, you can cross the bridge in Pakse over the
Mekong River to Phone Thong district, then driving south passing
Champasak, Soukouma districts and finally you will get to this town at
no time.
Today, this town is changing
fast. The roads infrastructure had been built linking major cities like
Pakse,
Si
Phan Don and neighboring
countries Thailand and Cambodia. The new markets, shops, houses,
council's offices and hospital are being built to cope with a growing
number of population.
So, this is a growing town and
there are opportunity for local and oversea investors who want to seize
on this golden opportunity to invest in their dream business venture.
At the time of writing there are a numbers of Chinese, Vietnamese
businesses already opened shops in every corners of the town.

Sathanbuhal
Silaluck is a historic site
believe to be built in many centuries ago and situated about 25 km east
of the main town. The site is easy access from the main road and there
are two buildings constructed by the local authority for visitors to
have a rest and for villagers to celebrate Buddhist festival for this
historic site once a year.

The statue in the site is
headless and believed it was vandalized by someone in the past. On the
wall of the site there are scripts writing similar to bali and
sancrist, but according to the historian the true meaning of the
writing is till unclear as they can not find someone who can read that
script yet.
Dong
Katung

Dong
Katung is dense forest rich in
all kind of wild life animals including elephants. During the Indochina
war fighting here were very fierce inside and around this area and as a
results many elephants were killed and wounded. Today, no one know how
many elephants are left in the forest.

Dong Katung is also rich in
timber, many trees are more than 200 years old and some of them are
very hard to find not even in Laos but in Southeast Asia as well. In
the past two decades heavy commercial logging and cutting the wood had
made the valuable timber disappear permanently from this forest. Unless
dramatic action has been taken immediately to stop logging, this forest
won't be available for our grand-grand children to see and enjoy in the
future.
