Traditionally Laos girls are strictly followed Lao customs. They dressed conservatively, they usually weared long skirt (sin) and covered the whole body with long dress.
They are quite natural in look
and behavior. They do not wear makeup or fuss with their hair. They
rarely went out with their boyfriend alone until after marriage.
Virginity is their first priority that they must keep before the
wedding day.

Any Laos girls who lose
virginity before marriage is considered to be a bad girl and if the
news spread widely no man will want to marry her. Therefore in the past
these girls who lose virginity always consider commit suicide,
otherwise the family have to move her far away where no one know about
her background.
When they married they stayed
together until the end of their life "one husband one wife". After
marriage these girls always stay at home cooking, doing all home work
and looking after the children. Only men went out looking for work and
bring food to the family. As Laos believe in Buddhism her other duty
toward religion is to wake up early and prepare food for the monks.

Today Lao girls in major cities
in Laos are mostly like any others girls in many Asian cities. They
have job and some live indepently away from home. Many of them even
live and follow the western life style. Some went oversea to study and
virginity is no longer a big issue any more, now they live together
before they decide to get marry.
