Khone Phapheng Waterfall is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Champasak province near the border of Cambodia.
This is a great location for
tourist attraction in the south of Laos. It is also known as a Niagara
falls of Southeast Asia. Everyday full bus load of local from Pakse,
Vientiane
and oversea tourist from Thailand
and Vietnam
come here to visit the waterfalls and explore the extra ordinary
beautiful scenery and its stunning area around the falls.


The waterfalls' total height is
21 meters and the average discharge of the cataract is nearly 11,000 m3
per second; though the highest volume on record was reached at over
49,000 m3 per second during pick season. The huge area above the
waterfalls is dotted with islands and countless waterways, known as Si
Phan Don (meaning 4000 islands).

Phan Don is home of 4000
islands, Don Khong is the biggest island with a total length of 18 km
long and 8 km wide and Muong Khong is its capital city. At midnight
when everyone go to bed as soon as you woke up and went outside the
house you can hear the sound of Khone Falls hitting to the lower Mekong
river ground as the monk beating the drum at the temple.
